Matt Barber Hits NYC
Toronto musician Matt Barber came though NYC this week and played a dynamic set of his own songs. He was joined on one tune by his girlfriend, actress Alexis Taylor. They sang lovely harmonies together. The venue was the performance room at Brooklyn’s Rock Shop, which has a fabulous warm sound. Also playing were the local duo Mighty Moon. As you can see in the picture of the two of us, Matt’s a big guy! He has a rolling, sonorous voice and he strums his Martin guitar left-handed, wringing big waves of sound from the instrument. He played a great set, including a finale from the musical for which he’s written songs, “The Haunted Hillbilly,” from Derek McCormack’s novella of the same name, loosely based on the life of Hank Williams.
