Kyle and I had a great time in Coney Island today. In addition to the photo I sent out with the above tweet, here are more highlights from my camera roll with about 20 shots of this supremely photogenic New York City attraction.
- On the D train headed to Coney Island. It took about an hour from Columbus Circle in Manhattan. Finger at the bottom belongs to Kyle, pressing shutter on her own camera.
- Our first view of the beach.
- Calm surf, easy for kids to have fun and parents to relax.
- A straight-on shot of the Wonder Wheel sign. Those colored squares represent the cars aloft hanging on the wheel, rocking and swaying in the air.
- Wonder Wheel, Coney Island’s take on a Ferris Wheel.
- A rider waves, waiting for things to start shakin’.
- Would you ask this lady to foretell your future?
- Seller inside the freak show ticket booth.
- What more could you ask?
- Snakeology.
- Never too young to enjoy a nice cuppa.
- New York’s diverse tribes enjoy Coney Island.
- The Cyclone, dating from 1927, still takes passengers on scary rides.
- The famous coaster is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
- Though riders are told to hold on tight, once aloft on the Cyclone they can’t help but wave their arms just before a big drop.
- Burger Boy–sentinel and fast food mascot for many decades.
- NY Mets farm team the Coney Island Cyclones play at MCU Ballpark, the only park I know named after a credit union.
- Outside MCU Ballpark is a larger than life monument to Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese, teammates and friends on the Brooklyn Dodgers. It felt good to lean against their welcoming form.
- Homeward bound on the N train, crossing over the Manhattan Bridge, facing the Brooklyn Bridge and lower Manhattan with the Woolworth Building tucked just under the bridge strut.
