Wilderness of Manitoba In the Wilderness of Manhattan

Tuesday night Nov. 1 was an exciting evening and got the new month off with a real bang. After participating in the reception for the American Philosophical Society at the Grolier Club (detailed in another post) I went to Brooklyn’s Powerhouse Arena for PEN America’s reception for new members, of which I am one. Saw and talked with a number of friends there, including Bill and Pat Strachan. From there I took the subway back into Manhattan to catch some live music with the Toronto band Wilderness of Manitoba, who were playing The Living Room on the lower east side. Great, intimate venue for this chamber folk 5-piece. Acoustic instruments–banjo, piano, guitar, percussion–were complemented with gorgeous vocals. They played a great set and I was really glad to meet and talk with them afterward, also got a copy of their self-titled LP, happy to carry it home on vinyl.
